Seed canola to target profitable plant populations

A national agricultural trade organization is calling on Ottawa to fast-forward plans requiring that biodiesel make up two per cent of diesel fuel sold in Canada.

The Canola Council of Canada wants the two per cent mandate to take effect in 2010, rather than 2012.

Barb Isman, the council’s president, told the annual meeting of the Canada Grains Council in Winnipeg today that the earlier date is manageable, and prolonging biodiesel’s required use will simply delay necessary industry investment.

“We’re already behind the other countries of the world,” Isman said, “so we have to move ... forward.”
